A buggy upgrade published Friday by security vendor McAfee because of its consumer and enterprise antivirus products and solutions, left the computers of its own customers unprotected and, in some cases, unable to gain access to the web. One workaround, meant for users who lost Internet connectivity on their computers, involved uninstalling the item, rebooting the laptop, downloading an upgraded version of their product from McAfee's web site and installing it manually.
Users that continued to encounter errors after updating to the DAT variant were advised to uninstall the item using a technical tool named McAfee Consumer Product Removal (MCPR) and install the updated version of the goods. Users of McAfee Virus Scan Enterprise (VSE) 8.8.x, the company's flagship enterprise anti-virus product, had to wait until Monday to get a so-called super DAT hotfix that willn't require them to reinstall the item on tens or hundreds of computers that are affected.
For VSE, the undesirable updates caused issues with the on-access scanner (OAS), an essential component that assesses all files accessed by the device for indicators of malware,'' the company said in a support document published on Monday.
Some administrators in charge of anti-virus deployment incorporate environments expressed concern that as the OAS remains disabled an individual could have infected as well as the malware may disperse to different computers on the system.
